Learn about our adaptation of Keith Campion's wonderful WW1 novel, "The Last Post"...

The Last Post

Keith Campion's highly acclaimed debut novel has had praise lavished on it from teachers all over the country and we are excited to be the ones to bring it to the stage!

“We were all just desperate men who wanted to be home for Christmas with the ones we loved; our hearts torn between the duty to our country and the warmth and shelter of our families.”

"Thank you so much! A rave review from us!

The adults and the children absolutely loved the production and were visibly moved by the performances.

After studying WW1 as our history topic, the Y6's have a genuine connection with the stories and the heroes. The actors were fantastic; very professional and fab performers.

PLEASE can you come again in 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026... Amazing!"

Becky Brewer, Priorslee Academy

This original and moving 60 minute production uses multi-media and multi-roling and is produced to the same high standards that we at Hobgoblin are so proud of having a reputation for.

Each performance includes a 10 minute Q&A with the actors after the show and an accompanying workpack to maximise the learning opportunities that the show affords.

The story revolves around correspondence between Joseph, who is at war, and his son William at home.

Poignant, moving and thought-provoking - we are thrilled to bring "The Last Post" to life on the stage for children across the UK.

If you would like to take your children (your family or your pupils!) to see the show in a theatre then you could bring them to one of the 8 theatres the show is also touring to. Check out our venues and dates HERE

"What a fantastic performance for our Year 4, 5 and 6 children!

The actors were engaging and professional and hooked the pupils for the whole session.

The set was great and our classes were very excited to see the hall transformed.

The production inspired many questions and the actors were very willing to answer them at the end.

We look forward to our next show at Christmas!"

Lauren Jessney, Croxby Primary School

"The Last Post book by Keith Campion is brought off the page sensitively in the Hobgoblin production.  Just 3 actors take on the many roles and the heartfelt performances explore the letters exchanged and show the blind hope of William to see his dad for Christmas.

As a teacher watching you pay attention to the details of the trenches and somehow know where this will lead but William's excitement at his father's war adventures helps students to understand the enthusiasm for war.

The poignant end with nods to modern day remembrance was very touching."

"I am delighted with this
incredible adaptation of The Last Post. Powerful and poignant, it brings the book alive in an
accessible and moving way for young children and families.

Keith Campion, author of "The Last Post"

"I just wanted to write to say how
outstanding this morning’s performance was.

We were captured right from the very start. We were certainly on a journey of emotions, and felt every one of them."

Head of English & Drama

"The show was fantastic.

I would recommend this performance to any school around Remembrance – it really helps the children to understand elements of war in a child-friendly but also realistic way."
